Voting

How to Register

Mail-in voter registration forms are available at government offices and public locations including:

  • County recorder's office
  • Political party offices
  • Driver's license offices
  • City clerk's office
  • League of Women Voters
  • Secretary of State's website
  • Post offices

To be eligible to vote, you must be at least 18 years old, a citizen of the U.S. and a resident of
Arizona.

A mail-in registration is valid if it complies with either of the following provisions:

  • The registration is postmarked at least 29 days before an election and received by the county recorder's office by 7 pm on election day.
  • The registration form is dated at least 29 days before an election and is received within five days after the last day to register to vote in that election.

Registration Is Permanent

If you do not change your name, address or party affiliation, you do not need to reregister.

To make any change, obtain a mail-in registration form, fill it out and mail it to your county recorder's office.

Early (Absentee) Voting

Any registered voter may obtain an early (absentee) ballot up until 5 pm the Friday before an election by:

  • A personal visit to the county recorder's office (as early as 33 days prior to the election)
  • Written request to the county recorder's office (as early as 93 days prior to the election)
  • Oral request to the county recorder's office (as early as 93 days prior to the
    election)
The following information must be included when requesting an early (absentee) ballot:
  • Name
  • Residence address
  • Birth date
  • Election for which ballot is needed
  • Mailing address

The early (absentee) ballot must be returned to your county recorder's office by 7pm (close of polls) on election day.

For early (absentee) voting in city or school district elections, the procedure is similar.  Contact the appropriate city clerk's or school district office because residence requirements may differ from state requirements.
