Marana

"Modern" Marana began in 1881 with the arrival of the railroad. It was named by the workers as they hacked their way though dense mesquite thickets to lay the rail; the name "maraea" is Spanish for thicket or jungle. The town was officially incorporated in 1977 to help protect the water rights of cotton growers in the community. Marana has a variety of housing options, including new community developments in Continental Ranch area, at the base of the Torolita Mountains and on the former cotton fields in northern Marana. The Dove Mountain area offers golf course homes and other luxury accommodations. The town of Marana also boasts 2 age- restricted communities. As one of the fastest growing communities in the region, it is expected that the estimated population of 26,500 will double in the next 10 years.  The town is partnering with landowners and developers to establish a Town Center in northern Marana around the newly constructed Municipal Complex.

Location: 17 miles along interstate 10 from the Pinal County line to the Tucson City limits.
